The purpose of this website is simply to take up space. The Pinki.net domain was started stricktly to provide my wife with a personal email address. Since I had the domain name and nothing better to do I gave it a website, well actually I gave it a place for a website but never put anything there. Since a blank website is pretty lame I decided to do this, which is itself pretty lame but better than nothing.
TopI chose to write this web page with OpenOffice because ........it was there and free, and my way of expressing my distaste for Micro$oft Office which can also make a pathetically simple web page for the small $300+ fee to purchase software that is incompatible with everything else in the world. I used the OpenOffice web page wizard and never gave another thought to design or format. If I ever decide to do something more useful with this website then I will probably write some nifty PHP code to make it do something interesting. Don't hold your breath, don't even bother to check back often.
TopThe hardware that provides this website is a sad collection of spare parts and little bits left over from years of computer abuse and upgrades. It uses some strange processor by Cyrix or something that runs at 266mhz but thinks it is a 300mhz due to is “superior design” (yeah whatever). I got the motherboard from this guy who got it from this other guy who found it in a closet when he was moving. It's an A-Open something or other from the early days of PCI bus architecture, and works great. I installed Mandrake Linux on it and turned it on. It ran for 6 months but then the local power went out and it was rebooted. I figure it could probably use an UPS but since I don't have one, I like to think of the occasional power outage as “periodic maintenance“.
TopHere is a snapshot of my Mandrake 10.0 desktop computer. It is sporting Quanta Web designer software. Lsongs compiled from source collected from Linspires website, listening to Live radio from London, UK. and all this is being monitored by Karamba imbedded into the desktop wallpaper
Here is a snapshot of my desktop computer. It is sporting Xine playing the Army of Darkness DVD, the OpenGL first person shooter game Soldier of Fortune, GnomeMeeting teleconferencing software and XMMS playing an mp3 from the wallflowers. The wallpaper is a picture of Mesa Falls in Idaho.
